Hello Julie,
I feel blessed to have found your article in Yoga Journal magazine last night. As I flipped through the pages with sleepy eyes, I promised I would just glance at the articles and then read something whole heartedly today when I had more energy. My eyes landed on your story and lifted my spirits.
I do not have a child with special needs however I have worked with individuals with specials needs for most of my life. I know for sure it is my life’s purpose. Just last night, my sister, Carolyn, told me that her youngest child has some serious developmental delays and that she is just beginning to say it out loud. She could barely speak to me over the phone. Her son is 20 months old and has begun receiving services. Just this week his therapist told my sister that her son needs more services. After hanging up with her I thought, “What can I say to her?” She is looking to me for advice, support and I do not even know where to begin. The last thing that I want to do I put a wet blanket over her sadness.
The wonderful blessing is that Carolyn and I both practice and teach yoga to children regularly . . . so I know that in her heart she is aware of the truth that dropping the thought of what her child should be will set her heart free.
I was hoping to be able to share with her something that would speak to her heart – and I believe your blog will do just that. You words of spiritual wisdom are the answer to my prayer. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world. I am grateful for you today.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Peace and Blessings,
Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth,
I am so happy that you found my blog and I hope that you so share it with your sister. It may take her time but I am sure that she will become stronger and wiser and see that blessing that her son is.
If I can help in any way please let me know.
Warmly,
Julie
